In 2020, the world celebrates Beethoven’s 250th birthday. Few composers have left a legacy compara-ble to that of Beethoven, whose collected works comprise more than 650 compositions. The University of Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of the Principal Guest Conductor of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Bernhard Gueller, together with violinist Alissa Margulis, perform Beethoven’s elegant and lyrical Violin Concerto. In 2020, Stellenbosch University also celebrates the 40th birthday of the magnificent Marcussen Organ in the Endler Hall and the second half of the concert features Mario Nell as soloist in Guilmant’s Symphony No.1 for organ and orchestra.
